Practice Areas:  Preference is for primary care physicians (Family Practice, General Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, General Pediatrics, Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics and General Psychiatry).  Primary care physicians who have completed fellowship training in Geriatrics, Adolescent Medicine, Child/Adolescent or Geriatric Psychiatry also meet the definition of primary care for purposes of the program.

Specialists: Yes; non-primary care specialists and subspecialists are eligible but must meet additional requirements outlined in the program policy.

Notes: Sponsoring health care facilities as well as J-1 physicians must accept Medicaid, Medicare and uninsured patients, and must provide a sliding fee scale based on 200 percent of the current federal poverty level.
